Midsummer Night`s Dream Essay, Research Paper
In Shakespeare & # 8217 ; s “ A Midsummer Night & # 8217 ; s Dream ” the mortal teenage
characters fall in love foolishly, and the character Bottom provinces, “ O what
saps these persons be ” . They are foolish because they act like kids.
Although Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena appear grown-up, when they are
in love they act unwisely. The four teenage lovers are saps. Demetrius is a
sap because he is incognizant that his love alterations through out the drama. At the
start of the drama Demetrius does non love Helena. ( II ii, line 188 ) Demetrius
says, “ I love thee non, hence prosecute me non. ” ( II ii, line 194 )
“ Hence, acquire thee gone, and follow me no more. ” In III two, Demetrius
after being juiced Begins to love Helena. ( III ii, line 169-173 ) Demetrius says,
“ Lysander, maintain thy Hermia ; I will none. If e & # 8217 ; er I loved her, all that love
is gone. My bosom to her but as guest- wise sojourned, And now to Helen is it
place returned, There to stay. ” This proves he is a sap, because he is
non cognizant of his altering love for Helena. Helena is a sap because Demetrius
does non love her but she still persists in trailing him. Demetrius shows no love
for Helena. ( II i, line 227-228 ) Demetrius says, “ I & # 8217 ; ll run from thee, and
conceal me in the brakes, And leave thee to the clemency of wild animals. ” ( II
I, line 199-201 ) “ Do I lure you? Do I talk you fair? Or instead do I non
in plainest truth Tell you I do non, nor I can non love you? ” Demetrius
clearly illustrates to Helena that he has no involvement, but Helena persists. ( II
I, line 202-204 ) Helena says, “ And even for that do I love you the more. I
am your spaniel ; and, Demetrius, The more you beat me, I will crawl on you. ”
( II i, line 220-222 ) “ Your virtuousness is my privilege. For that It is non dark
when I do see your face, Therefore I think I am non in the dark ; ” This
proves that Helena is a sap because Demetrius does non love her, but she still
persists. Lysander is a sap because he persuades Hermia to avoid decease and run
off with him. Hermia must get married Demetrius or she will be put to decease.
( I
I, line 83-88 ) Theseus says, “ Take clip to hesitate, and, by the following new moon-
The sealing-day betwixt my love and me, For everlasting bond fellowship- Upon
that twenty-four hours either prepare to decease For noncompliance to your male parent & # 8217 ; s will, Or else
to marry Demetrius, as he would, ” Hermia does non love Demetrius. ( I i, line
140 ) Hermia says, “ O snake pit! To take love by another & # 8217 ; s eyes. ” Hermia
loves Lysander. ( I i, line 150-155 ) “ If so true lovers have been of all time
crossed, It stands as an edict in fate. Then allow us learn or test forbearance,
Because it is a customary cross, As due to love, as ideas and dreams and
suspirations, Wishes and cryings, hapless illusion & # 8217 ; s followings. ” Lysander has an
alternate thought. ( I i, line 157-159 ) Lysander says, “ I have a widow aunt, a
dowager Of great gross, and she hath no kid ; *From Athens is her house
remote seven conferences. ” ( I i, line 164- 165 ) “ Steal Forth thy male parent & # 8217 ; s
house tomorrow dark, And in the wood, a conference without the town. ” Lysander
is a sap because he convinces Hermia to put on the line decease and run off with him.
Hermia is a sap because she risks decease for love. Hermia is to get married Demetrius,
or be put to decease. ( I i, line 95-98 ) Egeus says, “ Contemptuous Lysander, true,
he hath my love, And what is mine my love shall render him. And she is mine, and
all my right of her I do estate unto Demetrius. ” Lysander suggests an thought.
( I i, line 157-159 ) Lysander says, “ A good persuasion. Therefore her me,
Hermia. I have a aunt, a dowager Of great gross, and she hath no kid ; ”
Hermia agrees with the thought. ( I i, line 168-169 ) Hermia says, “ My good
Lysander, I swear to thee by Cupid & # 8217 ; s strongest bow, ” ( I i, line 178 )
“ Tomorrow genuinely will I run into thee. ” Hermia is a sap because she is
put on the lining decease for the love of Lysander. Therefore this proves, the four teenage
lovers are saps. ( VI i, Theseus states ) “ Lovers and lunatics have such
huming encephalons, Such determining phantasies, that apprehend More than cool ground
of all time comprehends. ” William Shakespeare & # 8217 ; s A Midsummers Night & # 8217 ; s Dream shows
how childishly foolish lovers can be.
