Observation is one of the most utile ways to observe forms, patterns, wonts, similarities, and differences among people in a specific civilization. It allows the perceiver to watch with an indifferent position, and see people of all types in their natural scene, moving as they usually do. In a college scene, peculiarly, it is easy to observe people? s differences because there are so many different types of people.
My group and I were able to detect some forms among a assortment of scenes. A few of the topographic points we observed are the Western Michigan? W? outside the Waldo Library, the cafeteria, and the forepart desk at one of the vale residence halls. It is interesting to see which people act in similar ways and in what manner they are similar.
We were surprised by some of our findings, nevertheless. It seems that, as a group, we have a just sum of preconceived ideas on? the manner things should be? . One observation was that, at 8:00 am on Saturday forenoon, the bulk of pupils who were awake and out ( about 95 % ) were males. A 2nd observation we discussed was one I had noticed as I sat outside the Waldo Library. There is a superstitious notion on Western? s campus that if a pupil walks over the cement? W? in forepart of the library, that individual will neglect that semester? s categories. It is a cockamamie superstitious notion, yes, but about 99 % of all pupils who walked by the? W? went to great lengths to avoid it. Peoples would sh
ove their friends out of the manner, lurch last minute to remain off, or merely walk wholly on the other side of the pillar to be off from it. The superstitious notion had likely merely been mentioned to them one time or twice, yet they were highly dedicated to remaining off from the? W? .
There are utmost differences in action between groups of people, every bit good. When detecting people in the cafeteria, it is really apparent that people of? like groups? tend to lodge together. Sadly, it is rare to see a culturally or even? fashionably? diverse group of people eating together. It seems that, subconsciously, people are afraid to interrupt out of their comfort zones to run into new people. It is easier to remain narrow minded and comfy than to stretch yourself a small and fitting people different than yourself. Peoples would larn so much if they were willing to accept new people.
I truly enjoyed my glance into the life and wonts of my equals. Peoples who we know near to nil approximately surround us each twenty-four hours, and it seems that most people would instead maintain it that manner. It? s sad, truly, to believe about the fact that each twenty-four hours we could be go throughing by our psyche mate, but we are merely excessively self-focused to look up at the universe to see what other people have to offer. In decision, this assignment was a great learning experience for me. It is ever good to step back and take a expression at yourself and how you personally assess the universe and the people in it.
