Observation Of Social Situation Essay, Research Paper
While consistently detecting a societal state of affairs for approximatly one hebdomad, I have
observed some common forms of interaction and have rendered some possible accounts
for these forms of behaviour. While there were some irregular observations, most of the
behaviour was consistent with that of my hypotheses. My research inquiry involves the
behaviour of males versus females in the scene of a exercise room or gym. I hyptohesized that
males are more likely to interact with each other than females are, and males are more likely to
usage weights than females, while females are more likely to use aerophilic activity machines
more than males. All of these hypothesis will be farther supported within the footing of my
observations.
My basic observation technique included utilizing qualitative research methods and
concentrating on how people interacted with each other, how they themselves acted, and how
other people reacted to them. This included utilizing the participant observation technique where
the research worker participates in the activities of the unit under survey.
All of my observations took topographic point in both the Bream Wright Hauser weight room and
the ________________ exercise room. I chose to detect both of these locations because of
the varitey of people who could be observed and the type of people who used both of these
installations. In the Bream Wright Hauser weight room, there are three measure machines, and a motorcycle
located along the left wall, and the whold right side of the room includes weight machines to
work assorted parts of the organic structure. In the
center of the room and to the dorsum are the free weights
and weight benches. This room includes largely weights and really few aerophilic machines. In
the______________ weight room, nevertheless, there are really few weight and an copiousness of
aerophilic machines. One little corner contains weights and the remainder of the room includes several
measure machines, motorcycles, and other aerophilic machines. One observation which I noticed was that
while the Bream Wright Hauser room included predominatly males with a few females,
including myself, the ____________room comtained all adult females and no work forces. I think this is
owed to the contents of the room. Even in Bream Wright Hauser, the little figure of adult females
tended to utilize the aerophilic machines. This leads me to one observation that the adult females are
much more likely to utilize the aerophilic machines than work forces. Besides, because there was non a individual
adult male in the ___________room, I besides concluded that work forces tend to use the weights much
more often than the aerophilic machines.
The state of affairs which I observed is located on the Gettysburg College campus in
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The participants include work forces and adult females in the age scope of
approximatly 18 & # 8211 ; 23 who constitute a societal sum. The figure of participants vary from
dark to dark and depending on the clip of the twenty-four hours in which the observation is taken. The
features of the participants besides vary but include both work forces and adult females from largely
in-between category, white backgrounds who come together for the common end of physical fittingness.
The forms of interaction which I observed fundamentally coinsided with the statements in
my hypotheses.
