Act 2 Scene 2: Capulet’s grove

ROMEOHe jokes at cicatrixs that ne’er left a lesion
But. soft! What light through yonder window interruptions?
It is the E. and Juliet is the Sun.
Arise. just Sun. and kill the covetous Moon.
Who is already ill and pale with heartache.
That thou her maid art far more just than she.

At this point. Juliet appears at the window. Romeo watches her from below.

JULIETAy me!

ROMEO [ Aside ] She speaks.
Oh speak once more. bright angel. for thou art
As glorious to this dark. being o’er my caput.
As a winged courier of Eden
Unto the white-upturned wond’ring eyes
Of persons that fall back to stare on him.
When he bestrides the lazy puffing clouds.
And canvass upon the bosom of the air

JULIETO Romeo. Romeo! Wherefore art 1000 Romeo?
Deny thy male parent and decline thy name ;
Or. if thou wilt non. be but curse my love. 35
And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.

ROMEO [ Aside ] Shall I hear more. or shall I talk at this?

JULIET’Tis but thy name that is my enemy ;
Thou art thyself. though non a Montague.
What’s Montague? It is nor manus. nor pes. 40
Nor arm. nor face. nor any other portion
Belonging to a adult male. O. be some other name!
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as Sweet ;
So Romeo would. were he non Romeo call’d. 45
Retain that beloved flawlessness which he owes
Without that rubric. Romeo. doff thy name.
And for thy name which is no portion of thee
Take all myself.

At this point. Romeo stumbles frontward and makes himself seeable to Juliet. They each express their love for one another and their hurting at being from opposing households. until Juliet finally enquires:

JULIETDost 1000 love me? I know thou wilt say ‘Aye ;
And I will take thy word ; yet if thou swear’st.
Thou mayst prove false: at lovers’ bearing false witnesss
They say Jove laughs. Oh soft Romeo
If thou dost love. pronounce it dependably.

ROMEOLady. by yonder blessed Moon I vow.
That tips with Ag all these fruit-tree tops–

JULIETO swear non by the Moon. th’inconstant Moon.
That monthly alterations in her circl’d eyeball.
Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.
