The narrative ( The Wonder World of OZ ) written by Frank Baum is filled with symbolism. Symbolism a manner of composing utilizing symbols and indirect suggestion to show thoughts, emotions, people etc. The narrative gives a batch of symbols associating to the gilded age in American history which took topographic point from 1880? 1900. The chief symbols are: Dorothy, the Land of Oz, king of beasts, Emerald City, winging monkeys.

The first individual the narrative negotiations about in the narrative is Dorothy. She? s a miss that comes form Kansas and was carried by a twister. In the narrative when the reader first meet Dorothy he finds out that she is really curios, and directly frontward. Dorothy in the narrative represents the mean husbandmans in Kansas. On the other manus the twister represents the alteration that has come up on husbandmans “ The Industrial Age. ” Therefore the narrative creates a comparing between Dorothy and her new challenge acquiring back place and the husbandman? s industrialisation job and autumn of harvest monetary values.

The Land of Oz was a whole new country, which acted like a whole new state. I had it? s ain system. Dorothy was scared of it she didn? T know the Torahs and how the people acted. To me I think The Land of Oz symbolizes the Western US. That is because the Western US? s lacking of power and it has no voice, they merely follow the E. The Land of Oz is closely related to the Western US due to the fact that they are merely under the ace? s regulation and that the people have no voice. The munchkins organize themselves in order for them to acquire rid of the enchantress. And so did the westerners they created Alliances so they can acquire rid of jobs much faster and much easier.

& lt ;< p>The loin in the narrative has no bravery and is seeking bravery organize the ace in order for him to be the male monarch of the jungle. He tries to frighten people or even ache them but he cant. The king of beasts creates a direct comparing with William J. Bryant. This is because when William Bryant tried to work out the job that was traveling on in the US Treasury by bettering the exchequer with free gold. Both the king of beasts succeeds in protecting his wood and so does Bryant by having a higher rank in office, and going more popular.

Another consecutive comparing is Emerald City. Emerald City and Washington DC are reasonably much alike. They are both the caput of authorities, they both control all the countries in the land. Washington DC makes up all the Torahs and the regulations to do the state better, and so is Emerald City helps command the land and to maintain it off form injury in it? s ain manner. An illustration is when the ace send Dorothy and all her friends to destruct the Witch of the West.

The winging monkey are in a direct comparing with the Native Americans “ Once? we were a free people, populating merrily in a great wood, winging from tree to corner, eating nuts and fruits, and making merely as we pleased without naming anybody “ Master. ” “ this shows how the Native American where free to make what they want to make in the land. And that they were under their ain supervising but know they have to populate in concentration cantonments under supervising. The land that they one time owned is know owned by the authorities.

The narrative the fantastic World of OZ, contains many different good symbols which criticizes history and different people that took topographic point in the Gilded Age 1880 & # 8211 ; 1900.
