1. Presentation

A.The narrative of? The Jilting of Granny Weatherall? by Katherine Ann Porter is portrayed in two different ways by the picture and narrative version.

B.Both versions of the narrative have the same basic chief points but some of the smaller points are different between the two relations of the narrative.

C.There are several differences between the film version of? The Jilting of Granny Weatherall? and the written version, which affect the manner the picture and narrative are interpreted. The differences which changed the reading of the picture and narrative are how the two versions begin: the narrative start with Granny in her deathbed, the picture shows us one twenty-four hours of her life before she goes to the deathbed, the 2nd difference is the point of position the narratives are told from: the written is told from a limited omniscient, the picture is from first individual, and 3rd difference is Granny? s preparedness for decease. In the narrative she was ready for decease, the picture showed her non ready for decease.

A.How each version start out

1.Both the written and video version has the narrative get downing out in a different topographic point, which changes the reading of the narratives.

2.The written version begins with Granny Weatherall in her deathbed, which leaves the full narrative less clear, the characters less developed and the job with Granny more vague. The reading of this version is Granny was really bothered by several things from her yesteryear and was non rather over her broken battle.

3.The video version begins with a twenty-four hours in the life of Granny Weatherall, and so we are takes to her deathbed. This is easier to understand because the narrative is more developed, the characters are more developed and we understand why Granny was jilted. The reading of this version is that Granny has worked all of her life and is still bothered by the loss of her youngest kid and her erstwhile fianc? and is non rather ready to decease.

B.Point of View

1.Both of these narratives

are told from different point of views, which gives us less and more to construe.

2.The written version of the narrative is from a limited omniscient. This leaves the reader with many inquiries, we do non see how Granny saw everything, the narrative and characters are less develops and Granny? s jobs so non seem clear. This changes how we interpret the narrative because the reader is left without a sense of conclusiveness.

3.The picture gives a first individual point of position by Granny Weatherall. We get a better apprehension of Granny? s life and what she has been through. This changes how we interpret the picture because we have a better position of what Granny went through, so we feel more sympathetic towards her. We besides see in more item how she was jilted.

C.Readiness For Death

1.1. In both versions of the narrative Granny is in her deathbed. The narrative and picture show a fluctuation in Granny? s preparedness for decease.

2.In the written versions Granny is ready fro decease. She was prepared for the terminal. This changes the reading because it showed she had non led a happy life and wanted to travel to heaven to see her girl Hapsy and she wanted to acquire out of her wretchedness.

3.In the picture Granny was non ready for her decease, she did non desire to be on her deathbed. This changed the reading because the fact that she realized even though her ex-fianc? had left her at the alter she had a better than expected life is pointed out to us.

111.Conclusion

A. There are two versions of? The Jilting of Granny Weatherall? . One is the original written narrative, the other is the picture based on the book.

B.The book and picture? s differences change the reading throughout each. The manner each starts out, the points of position from which they are told ; the preparedness of Granny for decease gives a new reading to each version of the narrative.

C.Each fluctuation in the two versions of the narrative changed the reading of the reader.
